Soak in the spirit of Christmas beneath the Capitol Rotunda’s magnificent dome! Christmas at the Capitol is the perfect way to celebrate South Dakota’s most magical season! 

Celebrate the magic of the season at
Christmas at the Capitol in Pierre, where the grand fall of the State Capitol transform into a dazzling winter wonderland. From November 26 - December 26, visitors can stroll through nearly 100 beautifully decorated trees. The air is alive with festive music, twinkling lights, and the scent of evergreens, creating an enchanting experience for families and visitors of all ages. Visitors can enjoy daily festive entertainment featuring local and statewide choirs, musicians, and community groups filling the rotunda with the “Songs of the Season”. Whether it’s your first visit or an annual family tradition, Pierre invites you to celebrate the cheer, splendor, and togetherness of the holidays at the Capitol.

The celebration gets kicked off yearly with a spectaulcar lighting ceremony and continues its festivities with musical events and talent brought from around the state. The Grand Lighting Ceremony will be held Tuesday, November 25th at 7pm CST. The Capitol Building will be open 7days a week from 8am-10pm including Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
