The Oyate Trail

The Oyate Trail - Southern South Dakota
The Oyate Trail is a cultural route that explores the southernmost parts of the state which either begins or ends in Vermillion and Hot Springs. Running east and west across the state, the full trail is roughly a 420 mile trip and takes about 2-3 days to complete in total. In Central South Dakota a large stretch of the Oyate Trail joins together with the Lewis & Clark Trail on US Highway 18 and State Highway 50 offering unique scenic views not many travelers get to see. This part of the trail winds through the Yankton Sioux Tribe and prairie grasslands, and is a great section for those wanting to grab a snippet of both the Oyate Trail and Lewis & Clark Trail on their journey through the southern region of Central South Dakota. On your way, there are several small town dives and stays we recommend checking out to make your trip even more personalized.
