Our area’s biggest claim to fame is our world-renowned hunting and fishing experiences.

Visitors from all over the world flock to the Missouri River valleys and plains to hunt and fish under big open skies. Where else can you catch your limit in the morning and shoot your limit in the afternoon?

When the leaves turn orange, so does the state of South Dakota.

Opening weekend of pheasant season is like a holiday as locals and visitors head out for some of the best pheasant hunting in the nation. The cool autumn weeks are the perfect time to spend the days and weekends in the fields, sharing laughter, memories, camradarier, and a couple cold ones (after the guns have been put away, of course).

While South Dakota may be best known for its pheasant population, the state is also home to deer, turkey, grouse, waterfowl and more! The Missouri River area is full of private lodges with all the perfect accommodations to make your next hunting trip easy and comfortable.

There is nothing better than feeling the sun on your face or the thrill of a tug on your line.

The Missouri River has some of the most varied fish species in the region. There's walleye, northern pike, lake trout, salmon, paddlefish, catfish, sturgeon, and much more to be had. Four dams completed in the 1960s created more than 900 miles of open water reservoirs and 3,000 miles of shoreline, perfect for catching fish from the beach or a boat.

Fishing the Missouri River is not just a summer activity. In the winter, freezing cold temperatures ice the river over and provide the perfect environment for a spot of ice fishing!
