Sitting Bull & Sakakawea Monuments

The Sitting Bull & Sakakawea Monuments, on Standing Rock Indian Reservation rests quietly two miles southwst of Mobridge on SD Highway 1806 overlooking the Missouri River.

Sitting Bull's Momument was created by Korczak Ziolkowski, a Polish-American designer and sculptor, who is also tributed for the work of the Crazy Horse Memorial in the Black Hils and many other remarkable projects. The Sitting Bull Monument was built in 1953 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. The Sakakawea Monument was created with funds raised by Mobridge school children in the 1920s.
